Un jour dans la vie de Billy Lynn

Le 23 octobre 2004, en Irak, Billy Lynn, un soldat de 19 ans, est filmé en train de porter secours à son supérieur, le sergent Breem avant d'être rapatrié et décoré d'une Silver Star. Un mois plus tard, Billy et quelques autres soldats de sa section participent à une tournée à travers les Etats-Unis. Alors qu'il est au Texas, Billy profite de son escale pour retrouver sa famille à l'occasion de la fête de Thanksgiving. Et tout le temps, des souvenirs douloureux de son séjour en Irak affluent.
